How to

Obtain Bahá’í credentials for travel

Friends who are going on pilgrimage or who wish to participate in Bahá’í Feasts, etc, when visiting other countries, may obtain international Bahá’í credentials from the National Office. These are issued as valid for one year. Please let the National Office know the country you are visiting as special advice is available for some countries and supply a passport photo (hard copy or digital).

Update your contact information

If you are moving from one locality to another, please inform your Local Assembly, so that a transfer notice can be sent to your new community and to ensure you stay on mailing lists for local and national newsletters, voting lists, etc. Your Local Assembly will also pass your new address onto the National Office. If there is no Local Assembly in your locality, please inform the National Office directly.

Apply for pilgrimage

A portal at pilgrimage.bwc.org provides a facility for requesting a pilgrimage or visit to the Bahá’í World Centre. The portal also provides information resources including a 30 minute video about pilgrimage, an explanation about visits (other than pilgrimages), a contacts page, and a travel advisory page.

It is currently not possible for the Department of Pilgrimage to include non-Bahá’ís in the invitations to believers to come on pilgrimage or for brief visits except when these individuals are the parents, children, or spouses of the Bahá’ís who will accompany them.

For those wishing to request pilgrimage or a brief visit to the Sacred Shrines, the Universal House of Justice has reiterated the importance of the considerations noted below:

  • Friends intending to visit are urged to carefully consider the travel advice provided by their respective governments.

  • Individual judgement should be exercised regarding the timing of the visit, taking into account the prevailing circumstances.

  • Believers are kindly requested not to extend their stay beyond the period necessary for their visit to the Bahá’í World Centre.

Learn about opportunities for service at the Bahá’í World Centre

A portal at service.bwc.org provides information about service at the Bahá’í World Centre and a facility for submitting an offer of service. Information on the portal includes areas of service and “frequently asked questions”. Naturally, the friends are also welcome to submit an initial application for service by email or post — see the “Help & Contact” tab of the portal for details.

As the vital work of the Cause unfolds in every part of the world, the effective functioning of the Bahá’í World Centre takes on added significance. The World Centre of the Faith––described by Shoghi Effendi as the “pivot of the agencies of the New World Order”––is supported by a flow of believers from a diversity of countries and occupations who arise selflessly to offer a period of service, of varying length, in the Holy Land.

The staffing needs at the World Centre are continually changing in light of the evolving demands and available resources. At any given time, there are roles to be filled which require particular competencies or specialized training, and others that simply require a readiness to learn about one’s specific assignment.

Due to the nature of service at the World Centre, the essential requirements include an ability to offer 12 months or more and a basic proficiency in English. Anyone interested in learning more about the possibility of offering a period of service at the World Centre is encouraged to contact the Office of Personnel through the portal at service.bwc.org.
