Condolences and congratulations extended to Kuīni Ngā Wai Hono i Te Pō
On the passing of the late Kiingi Tūheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII, the National Spiritual Assembly conveyed, on behalf of the Bahá’ís of Aotearoa, a message of condolence to his whānau and all those he served so diligently. The National Assembly expressed deep sympathy for their loss, acknowledging the remarkable impact of Kiingi Tūheitia’s legacy and his dedication to his people.
In addition, the National Assembly sent a letter of congratulations to Kuīni Ngā Wai Hono i Te Pō on her ascension to the leadership, offering heartfelt support and prayers for her continued strength, wisdom, and guidance in her new role. The letter also reflected on a shared commitment to unity and the empowerment of youth. She is the second Maori Queen in the history of Kiingitanga, after her grandmother, Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu ONZ DBE OStJ reigned as Māori Queen from 1966 until her passing in 2006, after which her son Kiingi Tūheitia was appointed as her successor. Her reign was the longest of any Māori monarch.
